Employment contracts in Seychelles

It’s legally required to put a written employment contract in place, in the local language, which spells out the terms of the employee’s compensation, benefits, and termination requirements. An offer letter and employment contract in Seychelles should always state the salary and any compensation amounts in Seychellois rupees rather than another currency. Fixed-term contracts are permitted in Seychelles.

Termination/severance in Seychelles

Probationary periods are permitted. Employers should provide 1 month’s notice to employees working under a fixed-term contract if they don’t intend to renew the contract.

When terminating an employee for just cause, companies must give the following notice:

  • Casual worker: 1 day
  • Worker on probation: 7 days
  • Any other local worker:  1 month
  • Non-national worker who is also not a casual worker and not on probation: Term as specified in the employment contract, or if none is specified, then 1 month.

Severance pay may be due to the employee and depends upon the reason for termination.
