The challenge: scaling a specialized global delivery team without the infrastructure to match
For Heather Oliver, Chief People Officer at Network to Code, international hiring was never optional.
Network to Code’s service model depends on proximity to clients, which means having the right technical talent in the right markets, whether that's London, Amsterdam, Athens, or Dublin. As regional demand accelerated and the company prepared to launch new commercial editions of Nautobot, their open source Network Source of Truth and Automation Platform, expanding their international footprint became critical.
Establishing local legal entities in every market was impractical, especially when hiring just a few experts per country. Without local entities, every international hire required navigating country-specific employment laws, payroll obligations, and compliance rules — work that fell squarely on a small people ops team already managing a distributed workforce across more than 30 U.S. states.
Having outgrown their previous employer of record (EOR) provider, Network to Code needed a high-touch partner. Switching EOR providers carried high stakes, requiring carefully managed transitions so employees in some countries could resign from one EOR and join another without losing trust, equity, or grandfathered benefits.
The solution: a platform built for complexity, a team built for people
Network to Code transitioned to G-P's Global Employment Platform, leveraging G-P EOR after a thorough evaluation. The decision came down to a short list of non-negotiables: employee experience, in-country compliance knowledge, responsive customer support, and a platform that made country-specific requirements accessible.
For Heather, choosing an EOR wasn't simply about compliance. It was about finding a partner that could help Network to Code continue delivering the employee experience and culture that had become one of their defining strengths, regardless of where talent lived.
By giving Network to Code the capability to hire compliantly in the UK, Ireland, Greece, Italy, the Netherlands, Germany, France, Spain, Poland, Ecuador, and India — without setting up local entities, G-P provided compliant contracts, locally accurate payroll, and benefits.
When working with an EOR, customer support has to be there, has to be responsive, has to be human. That was a really big priority — not only for us as the employer, but for our global team. And that's something we see in practice since we've been with G-P."
The impact: 26+ hires, 3 continents, one platform
Network to Code has built a senior technical workforce spanning Europe, South America, and Asia while maintaining the collaborative, people-first culture that has defined the company since inception.
The UK, Greece, Ireland, Italy, and the Netherlands represent their highest hiring volume, spanning specialized leadership roles like managing consultants, principal architects, regional sales directors, senior site reliability engineers, and directors of solutions engineering. These aren't easy hires to make or easy markets to navigate, yet Network to Code fills them consistently without adding headcount to their People Ops team.
By growing their presence across Europe, Network to Code is better positioned to support customers in the region, strengthen relationships with enterprise organizations, and continue expanding their global delivery capabilities. The international team has also brought new perspectives, experiences, and technical expertise that continue to enrich the company's culture and innovation.
In Heather’s experience, the biggest misconception is that international hiring is simply a way to broaden the talent pool and fill open positions. In reality, global expansion can strengthen an organization in ways that extend far beyond hiring.
It really doesn’t have to be difficult. Once you have a clear plan and the right partner, like G-P, the process can be seamless for employees while allowing you to connect with talented people around the world and see what they can bring to your business, culture, and workplace. If global hiring aligns with your business strategy, it’s absolutely achievable.”
Global hiring is no longer just an operational capability. It has become a competitive advantage that supports Network to Code's culture, strengthens their presence in key international markets, and provides the talent needed to power the next generation of network automation solutions.
G-P lets us move as fast as the business needs to move. And knowing we're doing it the right way — that makes all the difference."
