Fixed-term contracts are permitted in Eswatini. It’s legally required to put a written employment contract in place, in the local language, which spells out the terms of the employee’s compensation, benefits, and termination requirements. Employers may terminate employees with the following notice periods:

  • After the probationary period and 1 month of employment: 1 week of notice
  • 3 to 12 months of employment: 2 days for each completed month of continuous employment
  • More than 12 months of employment: 1 month plus 4 days for each completed year

Departing employees may be paid in lieu of notice. As noted in the labor laws, a terminated employee is eligible for severance pay of 10 working day’s wages for each completed year of service after the first year.

Paying taxes in Eswatini
