Managing a global workforce is like walking a tightrope. HR leaders have to navigate a shifting legal landscape, employee well-being, risk mitigation, data security, and information vetting – all while maintaining strategy. To keep up, they need actionable intelligence that joins legal expertise with real-world best practices.

G-P set out to remove this hurdle with the creation of Gia: an AI-powered global HR agent designed to deliver guidance HR leaders can trust. Built on a proprietary knowledge base and backed by G-P Verified Sources, Gia is an expert-vetted solution that handles the paperwork so HR teams can focus on the people work.

We sat down with Adrienne Drew, vice president of legal product innovation at G-P, who was part of the team that led the vision and development of Gia. Adrienne’s background is rooted in legal and advisory practice. She brings a unique lens to product development and makes sure Gia delivers accuracy for global compliance.

Let’s dive into what sets Gia apart from other AI tools.

From hackathon idea to top HR tech product of the year in 2025

Where did the idea of Gia come from, and how did you get involved in the product development?

"A hackathon team two years ago came up with the idea of using generative AI to answer questions internally, and they built a Slack bot," Adrienne recalled. This bot answered questions using the G-P knowledge base. Eight months later, the product innovation team approached Adrienne about using AI for a non-EOR user base.

The team then brainstormed to find overlaps between cross-jurisdictional G-P expertise and AI use cases.

“The opportunity to build AI for HR from a place of integrity and expertise was exciting and important. I knew that G-P was well positioned to do that.”

The successful open beta was a turning point for Gia. Flash forward to today, Gia is recognized as a Top HR Product of 2025 by HR Executive.

More than answers, Gia gives actionable intelligence

How does Gia go beyond answering questions?

"A good advisor doesn't just answer the question — they help the user get to the bottom of what they truly need," Adrienne said. It didn’t take long for the team to realize that simply offering answers to compliance queries wasn’t enough. HR leaders need comprehensive guidance.

Adrienne's attorney background was key here: "A client comes in with one question, and it's just the tip of the iceberg of the thing they're really trying to do. For instance, say a client asks about the notice periods in the U.K. A good advisor will know they’re actually trying to offboard an employee and need guidance on consultation processes, risk mitigation, and best practices.”

To make their approach actionable, the team broke down a "day in the life” of HR teams into areas like compliance, employee relations, and global mobility. They identified over 200 tasks where combining AI with G-P knowledge would have the greatest impact. This was the start of Gia’s generative capabilities across 50 countries and 50 U.S. states.

Gia was built to bridge the global employment knowledge gap and deliver more than answers. Its agentic AI supports HR professionals who are experienced but don’t have the latest information about the rules and regulations in every global jurisdiction. Adrienne noted, "HR Professionals have tremendous experience generally. But they may not have the underlying information about exact compliance rules or benchmarks in a given jurisdiction. Gia makes that information available to them.”

Gia is powered by RAG architecture and G-P Verified Sources

What's the biggest difference between Gia and general large language models (LLMs) like ChatGPT or Gemini?

"The biggest difference is how we generate the answers," Adrienne explained. General LLMs use massive datasets to predict likely words, which is how inaccuracies or hallucinations occur. The AI is trying to satisfy the user – even if it doesn't know the answer.

Other AI guesses. Gia knows. Instead of scraping the internet for answers, Gia uses:

  • Retrieval augmented generation (RAG) architecture: This architecture connects your question to a taxonomy of topics and only pulls from G-P Verified Sources. These include 100,000+ legally vetted articles and 1,500+ government sources.

  • Hallucination safeguards: "If you ask Gia questions about something it doesn't know, it will say, ‘I don't know the answer,’ because the taxonomy that's underlying the RAG doesn't have that category," Adrienne shared. In short, Gia won't try to please you by inventing an answer, unlike general LLMs.

Expert-backed sources were a cornerstone for the team – and why G-P introduced the G-P Verified badge.

Can you tell us more about G-P Verified?

"It’s a real differentiator in building trust that the responses are accurate," Adrienne said.

  • User confidence: The introduction of G-P Verified increase user confidence and trust in the product by 85% in early beta testing.

  • Our commitment: "It also reflects our confidence in our investment and the degree to which we stand behind the information that we're putting into the product," she noted.

Gia’s customers agree. “We’ve tried other AI tools, but Gia is the most holistic solution, and it truly supports multiple HR functions,” said Mandy Moore, director of HR technology at Rackspace. “Gia has provided clarity, allowing us to prompt with specific questions and generate a better understanding of the regulations.”

Gia handles data the right way

How does G-P make sure Gia information is both legally compliant and aligns with real-world practices?

Adrienne highlighted that Gia data is different because it not only incorporates black-letter law, but also best practices.

  • Data split: The team found that around 70% of user questions were about legal and compliance points  – but a crucial 30% were about industry standards and employee expectations.

  • Multidimensional answers: Adrienne explained that "HR practitioners want to know both: 'The law says X, but what is the industry standard? What will our employees expect?'" Gia combines legal compliance with HR best practices based on over a decade of experience.

Our agentic AI offers answers that are dynamic, and helps users identify potential compliance risks. For instance, if you ask Gia about notice periods in the U.K., it will give you the information as well as follow-up suggestions like: “You might want to do a performance improvement plan first” or “You need to begin a consultation process. Do you want me to tell you about that?”

"Gia brings up surrounding issues and provides a framework for action in a way that general LLMs can’t, allowing users to apply their judgment to the next steps without just being told to 'talk to a lawyer,'" Adrienne added.

The Gia knowledge base is updated regularly through a human-in-the-loop process that escalates high-risk and high-complexity issues for human review. With Gia, complexity doesn’t get in the way of accuracy.

The enterprise advantage

How does Gia benefit large, enterprise-level HR teams?

For large companies, Gia strengthens security and powers collaboration. Gia Enterprise provides:

  • Isolated tenant: Get an environment that’s exclusive to users. G-P never trains models on user data. All information is confidential.

  • Company knowledge integration: Upload company documentation, like a global HR handbook, into the Gia knowledge base. Team members can then ask things like, “What does our Portugal handbook say about available vacation leave?”

  • Faster operations: Give your organization a line of sight into global policies to speed operations across jurisdictions and prevent a single point of failure.

  • ROI and strategy: Administrators can see usage frequency and types, helping them articulate ROI and identify issue concentrations in regions.
