To smoothly operate a company overseas, you’ll likely need to hire both local candidates and international employees. Whether you’re bringing workers from your parent company to Comoros or hiring talent from another nation, you’ll need visas for nonnational employees.

Types of Work Visas in Comoros

Nonnationals must have the appropriate documentation to work overseas. There are two visa options for short- and long-term stays. The short-term business visa only allows visitors to remain in-country for 30 days. If your employees need a long-stay visa, they can obtain one for a higher fee and stay in the country for over 45 days.

Requirements To Obtain Comoros Work Visas

You’ll need a few documents and resources to apply for each employee’s visa — a few of which your company must provide as proof of employment. Talk with your workers about the information they must give to obtain work visas, including:

  • Proof of residency in their current country
  • Copy of their passport, which must be valid for at least six months after their date of entry into the country
  • Signed and filled out visa application form
  • Business letter from your company stating the applicant’s purpose for being in the country
  • Invitation letter from your company
  • Proof of adequate funds to support themselves
  • Approximately $50 to cover the visa fee, payable in U.S. dollars, Comorian francs (KMF), or euros

Application Process

Ensure you have the latest information on work visa requirements by contacting the embassy or consulate office nearest you. You’ll want to confirm your employees have all the necessary documentation required of their nationality to enter Comoros.

Depending on your situation, the requirements for obtaining a work visa may vary slightly. Follow this general process to get the appropriate permits to bring a nonnational into the country:

  1. Reach out to your embassy to confirm any requirements for your employee’s specific situation to obtain a visa.
  2. Obtain all required documents for presentation upon arrival.
  3. Pay the visa acquisition fee, which will be higher for a long-stay visa.
  4. Fill out the application and have an in-person appointment at the point of entry as needed.

Other Important Considerations

Visas are provided upon arrival, so you most likely cannot obtain one for employees before they fly into the country. The nation has no visa-exempt countries, which means any international employee will require a visa for entry. Nonnationals applying for a Comoros work permit may need to get tested for HIV/AIDS.

Depending on their country of citizenship, your employees may also need an approval letter from the consulate or embassy to receive a visa upon arrival. Consult with your nearest embassy for more information.
