Foreign nationals generally need authorization to reside and work before being hired in Brazil. The immigration status must permit the intended work activity, and some categories may already grant both rights.​​

  • Visit Visa (Vivis): International individuals traveling to Brazil for business typically apply for this visa. However, they generally cannot be paid by a company in Brazil for work or services performed there unless they have the proper work authorization. This visa is valid for up to 10 years and usually allows visits for up to 90 days per entry, with a general limit of 180 days per migratory year. It is important to note that such visa only permits certain activities. Should the visit involve the provision of technical assistance, installation, or maintenance of repair services, a separate work visa will need to be applied for.​​ 
  • 臨時居留（南方共同市场）：臨時居留 (Mercosur) 僅適用於阿根廷、玻利維亞、智利、哥倫比亞、厄瓜多爾、秘魯、巴拉圭和烏拉圭的國民。委內瑞拉國民已不允許從南方共同市场獲益；但是，有一種非常類似的居留許可證，其基礎是《邊境國家協定》，可使委內瑞拉和蘇里南美國民獲益。臨時居留簽證可在持有居留證2 年後取得永久居留權。​​ 

取得巴西工作簽證的要求​​ 

Each work permit has its own requirements. Employees cannot apply for a work visa until they have a Temporary or Permanent Residence Visa. They will also generally need to have a job or assignment lined up. For ordinary employment, the prospective Brazilian employer typically starts the prior residence or work authorization process before the visa or residence steps continue. If the individual changes jobs throughout their time in Brazil, they will have to apply for a new permit.​​ 

Typically, Brazil gives out temporary work visas and residence permits first. Temporary permits usually last up to 2 years and can typically be renewed once for an additional period, provided the employment relationship and eligibility conditions continue to be met. After those 4 years, an employer can apply to switch the temporary permits to permanent options that allow employees to live and work in Brazil.​​

A Brazilian legal entity usually must sponsor or support a visa application for local employment. Some routes may involve a Brazil-based host entity instead, and remote work or other visa categories may follow different rules. Brazil-based companies have to show the following documents to start the work permit process for employees:​​
