The requirements to get a work visa can vary based on the type of visa. However, most applicants for a visa in China need a passport, photograph, health certificate, and official employment license from the local authorities. As of June 15, 2022, China generally waived the COVID-era special invitation letter requirement, commonly called the PU Letter, for many work visa and Z visa applicants. Implementation could vary by embassy or consulate.
All visa holders must comply with the Chinese Exit-Entry Administration Law and register their accommodation with the local Public Security Bureau (PSB) within 24 hours of arrival. Hotels usually handle this for guests. For private residences, apartments, or other non-hotel stays, the foreign national typically completes the registration, often with the host or landlord. Here’s how each of your team members can comply:

The most common type of visa workers apply for is the Z visa. After entering China, applicants generally need to obtain a Foreigner’s Work Permit Card and a work-type residence permit before continuing employment. The sponsoring company should submit the Work Permit application to the local foreigner work permit authority within 30 days of the employee’s arrival or entry into China. Then, they need to obtain a residence permit for work, usually within 30 days of entering China. This replaces the short-term entry visa for lawful stay purposes. They must apply for this permit by:
